PACKING

I am fully aware that this section is supposed to deal with "Racks," but unfortunately I do not have illustrations of properly wired racks, so instead I will concentrate on yet another important portion of production sound duties: packing.

fig 1: This grey box on wheels has been modified to become a split-level storage box for extra video monitors and intercom headsets. I had our wonderful sound shop, Masque Sound and Recording, construct foamed dividers in order to provide easy access as well as shock protection for expensive Japanese and German equipment.
fig 2: This square roadcase is used to store front-of-house accessories, such as MiniDisc recorders, remote controls, headphones, and the like. Masque Sound lovingly constructed this insert to fit atop additional storage space.
fig 3: Note the foamed dividers separating each compartment on the top shelf. I enjoy it when all necessary equipment has been properly measured and custom-built inserts have been built.
It's a good thing.
fig 4: A detail of the lower section of the road case illustrates a custom foamed liner for the 17" TFT flat-screen monitor used at Front-of-House. Although protection is important, it is also essential that the final product look good.
fig 5: Douglas illustrates a less-than-perfect foam construction for a 15" TFT flat-screen monitor. This is not a good thing.
